BiographyHistory

Best known for his sensational claim that as a young man, he discovered a fabulously rich gold reef ('Lasseter's Reef') in central Australia. Neither Lasseter nor anyone else was ever able to rediscover the reef, and Lasseter died in an attempt to rediscover it in 1931 (although rumours that he faked his death persist).
