BiographyHistory

Wells was a popular English novelist whose science fiction works have influenced a number of Australian authors, among them David J. Lake. He visited Australia by invitation in 1938 to 1939 to address the Australia and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science (ANZAAS) conference held in Canberra in January 1939. He also visited Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney and his outspoken views on a range of political and social issues were widely reported in the Australian press.
