BiographyHistory

Bert (Albert Watson) Newton was an Australian media personality. A Logie Hall of Fame inductee, quadruple Gold Logie award-winning entertainer and radio, theatre and television personality/presenter, Newton hosted the Logie Awards ceremony seventeen times.

Although Newton was better known for his variety performances, often alongside wife Patti Newton and collaborator Graham Kennedy, he also appeared in musical theatre (including the role of the wizard in The Wizard of Oz) and occasional brief film roles, including in Fatty Finn. He published an autobiography in 1977.

Bert Newton died in October 2021 after complications from an infected toe, including a below-the-knee amputation of one leg. He had previously undergone quadruple bypass surgery.

Newton was the father of Matthew Newton.
