BiographyHistory

Bryan served with the Army Education Service during the Second World War and was Professor of English and Modern Languages at the Royal Military College of Australia (Duntroon) from 1941, continuing to lecture until the 1970s.
He was the General Editor of the Quest series of pamphlets from 1946 to 1948.
Between 1964 and 1968 he served on the Commonwealth Literature Censorship Board and from 1968 to 1976 he chaired the National Literature Board of Review.
