'A delightfully funny satire on the problems a new father might encounter when he decides to be a stay-at-home Dad.

'Sean can see the writing on the wall for the 'reality' TV show he works on. 'Failure to Stop' just hasn't been attracting viewers. So, as the roles reverse and his wife returns to work, Sean takes a terrifying leap into suburban life. Looking after a baby turns out to be considerably harder than he expected.'

For his best mate Spiros, it's fiery Greek origins and the prospect of inheriting a fish 'n' chips empire. De Salla's got animal magnetism and girls queuing up; Simmo could win the Indy 500 with his mum's station wagon; and Barry over the road's got his jam-jar washing business and that grandma with the bristly chin. Dominic, however, has never had a real driving force. Except for his half-hearted dream to be the warm-up act for the comedian Skinny Larry down at The Three Crowns...but that's not much of an ambition, is it? Sometimes, though, all it takes to carry us through life is a wisp of ambition. Those occasional tiny rewards, and that elusive light at the end of the tunnel... in the end, it's what we're all living for.' (Libraries Australia record).

We follow these two, in their own voices, through the decades of their lives. From Patrick's first youthful affection for his fellow student and tutor, Sheila, and her complete antagonism towards him, through their respective separate adult lives. Patrick grows from the gawky, love-addled adolescent into a fine young man. Sheila moves to Melbourne and becomes a great success story. During her adulthood, Sheila comes, finally, to rely on Patrick and to realise the love he has for her. She tries to reciprocate but cannot, trapped within her growing madness.
