Bronwyn Lea grew up in Queensland and Papua New Guinea. She lived in California for twelve years and studied at the California State University in San Diego. After her return to Brisbane in 1999 she studied for an MA (Creative Writing) at the University of Queensland where she now lectures in Poetics and Narrative.

She was poetry editor at the University of Queensland Press and the series editor, with Martin Duwell, of the annual Best Australian Poetry anthology (UQP), between 2003-2009. Her own poetic work has been widely published, anthologised, and translated into several languages.

Lea's research interests include narrative, poetics, academic and professional writing, creative non-fiction, publishing and editing. In 2019, Lea was appointed Head of School, the School of Communication and Arts, The University of Queensland. She is also a Board Director for UPLIT, which delivers the Brisbane Writers Festival, Word Play, Love YA and a number of regional literary initiatives.
