BiographyHistory

Bruce Shearer is a poet, playwright, and short-story writer.

Shearer holds degrees from the University of Melbourne in Law, English Literature and Philosophy, and History and Drama. He also holds accreditation in screenwriting from RMIT.

Shearer's plays have been performed in various locations since the late 1980s, and his poetry and short stories began appearing in print in the early 1990s. In particular, he has published numerous works for children in the various magazines published for New South Wales state schools.

  • In addition to works published in more traditional mediums, Bruce Shearer has had various short stories for children published online by Ziptales as part of their Ziptales online reading program.

    In 2015, his 140-character story 'Gentle Sunset' won the 140 Character Short Story Contest for Wild Sound Writing and Screenplay Festival.
