Lynne Strahan has been described in the Meanjin Quarterly (1965) as an editorial side-kick, librettist, research assistant in productivity and transfer of learning, director of an after-school programme, poet, bibliographer and short story writer. Strahan, working as a commissioned writer, has also written local history publications such as At The Edge of the Centre : A History of Williamstown (1994) and The Bay to Look Upon : A History of the Williamstown Hospital (1991). Her other interests, gardening and history, have resulted in her writing Gardens of Light: The Making, History and Meaning of Gardens (2002); and Getting the Numbers: Women in Local Government in 1987 (with Amanda Sinclair and Margaret Bowman). Strahan has written many Discussion Notes on.. (about novels of various authors) for the Melbourne Council of Adult Education. As a librettist, she has collaborated with George Dreyfus ( The Gilt-edged Kid : Opera in One Act; The Grand Aurora Australis Now Show: A National Anthem Sing-In for Young People; and Reflections in a Glass-house : An Image of Captain James Cook ) and with George Tibbits.
