Between ca. 1940 and 1957 Leisure Publications, Action Comics and H. John Edwards published a variety of magazines in detective, romance and western genres. Edwards purchased Leisure Publications in the mid 1940s and renamed the company after himself. It became Action Comics in the early 1950s. These firms published paperback series including Red-Back novels, and Sapphire Books. Edwards also wrote several books in these series. In 1953, G. C. Bleeck joined their list but before he could sign an exclusive contract with editor Cliff Robinson, the company was dissolved.

Located initially at 14 Bond Street, Sydney, Action Comics later relocated to 153 Walker Street, North Sydney.
