Harris has a background as a graphic designer, musician and children's theatre performer.

An extended stay in hospital at the age of seven allowed Harris the opportunity to draw and read extensively, thereby developing skills he would employ in his adult careers. After studying Graphic Design he entered the world of children's book illustration, both as designer and illustrator.
