BiographyHistory

Shiju Ma first came to Australia in 1987 when he undertook a Masters degree at the University of Melbourne. His work first appeared in publication in journals in Hong Kong and China in 1988. Returning to his homeland in June 1989, Ma arrived in China on the day of the Tiananmen Square massacre. He subsequently returned to Melbourne in 1996 and published his first novel, Kun chun (1997), the following year. As an experienced translator of English and Chinese, he has worked in this capacity for various organisations.

Ma's writing has been featured in periodicals such as People's Literature, Youth Literature, Poetry Monthly, Chinese World of Poetry, Hong Kong Literature and Chungwai Literary Monthly.
