Educated at Alderman Newton's Girls' School, Leicester, England, Hazel Peel left school at fourteen and worked as an office worker for one year before following her passion of working with horses. In 1950 she left to tour Europe, then migrated to Australia, married and worked in Victoria and Queensland in 1952-53. She eventually returned to England in her early twenties and began writing in 1957. The listed works have an Australian setting or have been listed in ACB(1) or (2). Other books include Pilot, the Hunter (1962); Easter the Show Jumper (1965), Gay Darius (1968), Pocket Dictionary of the Horse (1978) and under her name Wallis Peel she has written Land and Power (1975) and Sea Gem (2004).
