While on return leave in Australia, he falls in love with and proposes marriage to a woman, but the wedding is cancelled when Terry is ordered to return to active duty in the Pacific. He is later killed after his destroyer is attacked by a Japanese squadron. Terry's close friend Warren survives, however, and makes a commitment to carry on the tradition to which both Terry and his father had sacrificed their lives.
