'Because I Made Her Happy I Said is the first book of short stories by Australian poet, writer and psychologist Lyndon Walker. It traces the developmental narrative of a narrator who can change gender according to the needs of each story. From the age of four in The Drive; through adolescence, in According To Need; through young adulthood in Christmas On Mercy Street, The Factory, and Twistin’ By The Pool; to a supposedly wiser and more mature persona in the essay Alice Springs, Australia’s Irony Theme Park and the title story, Because I Made Her Happy I Said.'
