Kembali (Bahasa Indonesia for "you're welcome" or "return") Books was founded by Patrick McCauley, Paty Marshall and Bill Marshall, who jointly wished to publish a low-cost poetry magazine and circulate it in Darwin and Katherine. In 1975, when Paty and Bill Marshall moved to Cobden, Victoria they took the imprint with them and also gave the name to their new farmhouse where they continued to publish poetry titles and held poetry readings. Patrick McCauley contributed from Melville Island in the Northern Territory. In the late 1970s the Marshalls organised a return visit to the Australian outback as part of a poetry tour.
