BiographyHistory

The publishing house Skeffington was founded in 1844 in Middlesex as a bookselling business by William Skeffington, who moved to London and began publishing religious books around 1850. The Skeffington imprint was continued for religious works after the firm was taken over by Hutchinson and Company in the 1920s, but was also used for a range of other non-fiction material, and for some fiction, until the 1960s. It was the imprint for the work of some Australian novelists, including Paul McGuire and Georgia Rivers.
