BiographyHistory

Nikos Nomikos obtained a Diploma in Mechanical Design from the Technical College of Alexandria in 1957 and a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical College of Athens in 1963. In Australia he has worked as a mechanical designer for the Aeronautical Research Laboratories in Melbourne. Also a visual artist, he exhibited works in 1968 in the Art Union of Victoria exhibition at the Art Gallery in East Melbourne (winning the Robert Wood Prize), and in the exhibition of Melbourne Greek Week. His work has been read on SBS Radio 3EA in 1983-84, 1994, 1996, 1998, Radio 3ZZZ in 1990, 1994, 1996, 1997, Radio 3XY 1996-8, Radio 3BA 1996-8 and Community Radio Southern Moorabbin 88.3 FM 1996-97. It has also been read on Television on Neos Kosmos Ch.31, 1995 and Channel GAT/KA1, 1999.

Nomikos has read at many public venues including at the State Film Centre 1977-80, the Greek-Australian Art Centre, the Rhapsody Cafe, Wesley College, St Kilda 1980-82, the Greek Education Bookshop, the Multicultural Writers Association of Victoria and at several universities from 1995 to 1997 (Monash, Melbourne, LaTrobe, New South Wales and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology).

He was honoured by the International Society of Greek Writers and Artists at Athens in 1997 and by the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (S.A.E.) (Oceania) in 1999.
