But without the helpers, it would have been so much worse.People helped me that day in ways that they probably won’t ever know. Their kindness carried me through the darkness. Total strangers. I remember them every day; it replays in my mind like clockwork. I wonder if they remember me. If they know what they did for me that day. I wonder what their names were. From 'Helpers' by Kate Littlejohn, winner, 2019 Grieve Writing Competition. (Publication summary)

Each year it attracts hundreds of entries from distinguished and emerging poets and ‘BUYING ONLINE’ is the 2018 anthology of 30 poems. The Newcastle Poetry Prize represents a wonderful opportunity for Australian poets interested in writing longer poetic works and poetic sequences to have these works recognised and anthologised in the company of their most accomplished peers. The award honours and nurtures some of the bravest poems being written anywhere in the world and, in doing so, it accords poetry the place it deserves in our contemporary culture. - Paul Hetherington, poet. Featuring Ross Gillett, John Watson, Mark Tredinnick, Kevin Smith, Joanne Ruppin, Chloe Wilson, Andy Kissane, Mark O’Flynn, Andy Jackson, Kristen Lang, Alison Flett, Vidhya Karnamadakala, B.R. 1 y separately published work icon Grieve : Stories and Poems for Grief Awareness Month 2016 Newcastle : Hunter Writers' Centre , 2016 10283033 2016 anthology prose

'Grieve 2016 judges uttered many comments after reading all the poetry and prose works submitted this year: ‘what a feast’, ‘such rich imagery’, ‘thank you for inviting me on this marvellous ramble’, ‘I feel honoured and challenged’, ‘what a privilege’, ‘rewarding’ and ‘humbling’. We believe our readers can also expect to feel honoured, challenged and moved by the wealth of literary beauty in this book. The pieces published here capture confusion, anger, avoidance, stoicism, acceptance, growth, forgiveness and hope in the face of loss and grief. These are only some of the emotions that grief may unearth. Now in its fourth year as a national project, there is no sign that writing about grief and grieving is finished. And when we consider how many stories and poems here show us unrecognised, ignored and avoided grief, we could say that Grieve storytelling has only just begun.' (Publication summary)

1 y separately published work icon Grieve : Stories and Poems for Grief Awareness Month 2015 Hunter Writers' Centre (editor), Australia : Hunter Writers' Centre , 2015 9377705 2015 anthology poetry short story

'The 3rd anthology in the Grieve series, this volume of over 100 stories features a range of experiences: from the grief associated with disability or loss of ability, suicide, the death of a child, death due to old age or illness and even those times when we might, ironically, choose to lose a relationship in order to survive. Grief can be quiet or loud, shared with others or experienced in isolation, occasionally comforting, often a struggle or all of these states at various times. At any point along the journey it can help to have the experience described - helpful to others and helpful to ourselves. It is hoped that these stories and poems will give you support or insight or the simple delight of reading a fresh view on an emotional experience as old as the human condition itself. At the very least, this book is designed to show you that you are not alone and that togrieve is to be human.' (Publication summary)
