BiographyHistory

Established in 1977 by Sylvia Hale and John Iremonger, Hale and Iremonger first specialised in politics, women's studies, labour history and urban studies. This early list was developed by John Iremonger, who left the company in 1980. 'Under publishers Sylvia Hale and Roger Barnes, the list was broadened in the 1980s and the company was acclaimed for its publishing enterprise and high standards of production. Many books won awards and some became bestsellers.
Since then there has been a broad range of marketing initiatives, list development and changes in design, production and distribution. [As at 2002] 500 books have been published. Hale & Iremonger is a constantly evolving and innovative publisher which remains committed to publishing quality Australian books.'
