BiographyHistory

Julian Stuart was one of the union prisoners jailed for conspiracy following the 1891 Queensland shearers' strike. He was a longstanding Labor figure, and served as the member for Leonora in the West Australian Legislative Assembly in the period 1906-1908. In her foreword to Part of the Glory (1967), Lyndall Hadow (q.v), indicates that her father's actual name was John Alexander Salmon Stuart, but that he preferred to be known as 'Julian' Stewart. His son, Donald Stuart (q. v.), was also a writer.
