BiographyHistory

Sol Encel was born in Poland and came to Australia with his family at the age of four. He served as a medical orderly during World War II and, following the war, completed his degree at the University of Melbourne. Encel taught sociology at the University of Melbourne, the Australian National University and the University of New South Wales. In 1968, Encel was elected to the Academy of the Social Sciences. Throughout his life, he was actively engaged in Australian political life and the Jewish community.
