BiographyHistory

Sibnarayan Ray served as Head of Indian Studies at the University of Melbourne until he retired to Calcutta to concentrate on his writing career. He was also a member of the Board of Directors, International Humanist and Ethical Union, Utrecht, Holland from 1960 until 1968. Ray published poetry and edited poetry and fiction. He published several volumes of essays in Bengali and also some volumes of poetry. He was the foundation editor of the quarterly Jijnasa which became a prominent forum for Bengali writers. While resident in Australia Ray wrote Apartheid in Shakespeare and Other Reflections (1977).
