After training as a forester, Wolfe worked his way around Europe washing dishes and picking grapes. Returning to Australia, he lived in the Northern Territory with semi-tribal Aborigines, and helped get land rights for the people of Borroloola, later moving to live in the Morwell area of Victoria, where he was active in planting gum trees for koalas. His stories, songs and poems have been widely published, and many have been successful in competitions. He has written over 40 songs and some of his music, such as When the Wattle Trees Bloom Once Again and Bush Melodies (1991) has been published or recorded. He has also reviewed music. His strong affinity for the bush reflects his early days of living in tents whilst his father worked the goldfields of WA.
