Judy Ray was born in England and raised on a farm. She later lived in Uganda for six years and, after further travels, became an American citizen. Ray moved to America around 1977 and lived twenty years in Kansas City, Missouri. During this time she visited India, Australia and New Zealand. She helped set up The Writers Place in Kansas City and directed it for three years. More recently she has lived in Tucson, Arizona. Ray worked as a photographer before becoming a poet and short story writer. She is a volunteer teacher of English as a Second Language. Ray has published a prose memoir about India, The Jaipur Sketchbook, two collections of poetry - Pebble Rings : poems (1980) and Pigeons in the Chandeliers (1993) - and three chapbooks-Sleeping in the Larder, Tangents and Fishing in Green Waters (2005). She also co-edited Fathers : a collection of poems (1997).
