BiographyHistory

Morin Humphreys was born in England and migrated to Australia after service in the Cape Mounted Rifles in South Africa. Captain Humphreys arrived in Melbourne around 1865 and assisted Marcus Clarke (q.v.) with the Colonial Monthly during the latter's editorship (1868-1869). Humphreys edited Men of the Time in Australia: Victorian Series (1878-1882) and the Victorian Review (1879-1886). He is presumed to have then left Australia.

Humphreys contributed stories to Australian journals including 'The Truant Zouaves' in Once a Month (1885). He also wrote 'Boot and Saddle!': Bits of South African Life in Bush and Barracks, published in Melbourne by George Robertson in 1875.
