Maryanne Confoy graduated with a BA from the University of Melbourne and completed postgraduate studies at Boston College and the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She gained a PhD in theology and education from Boston College and has been a Visiting Professor at the Institute of Religious Education and Pastoral Ministry at Boston College, as well as lecturing at the Jesuit Theological College, Melbourne.

Confoy has published extensively in the areas of spirituality, religious education, and pastoral and feminist theology.
