BiographyHistory

Samuel Winter was the nephew of the publisher, Henry Melville (q.v.). According to the cover of Fragments of Fern Fronds, he was also the author of 'The Rocks of Hobart Town', 'The Records of the Rocks', 'Beneath the Bark and Under the Stones' and other essays. He also wrote Wayside Sketches (1880), a descriptive work about north-east Tasmanian landmarks.
