Manwel Nicholas-Borg was born in Sliema, Malta. He was educated at Stella Maris College, Malta. Between 1936 and 1942 he worked as a compositor and later as a member of the editorial staff of Il Berqa and its English counterpart, The Times of Malta. Between 1942 and 1949 he was with the Royal Air Force and served in Malta, Italy, Egypt, Palestine, Syria and Sicily. In Australia he worked with the Department of Supply and later, after his graduation from the Melbourne College of Printing and Graphic Arts, he resumed his career in printing. He has been an honorary member of the Maltese Academy, vice-president of the Maltese Literary Society in Australia between 1959 and 1967, a foundation member of the Maltese Literature Group of Victoria and a member of the Multicultural Writers' Association of Victoria. In 1989 his poem, Burning the Midnight Oil, was highly commended in the Poetry World Literary Competition. His work has been read on Radio 3EA, on Radio Malta and on the radio station 'Voice of the Mediterranean'.
