BiographyHistory

Henry Montague Somer, born and raised in rural Victoria, made a career primarily as an agricultural writer and editor. After a stint as the editor of the Hamilton Spectator and then editor and part proprietor of the Hamilton Tribune, he became the agricultural correspondent for the Sydney Morning Herald, writing the 'Land' column for that paper until 1906. While working as a journalist for the Herald, Somer also wrote short romance stories, often with a rural setting, for the periodical press. His other works include Amazing America (1923).
