BiographyHistory

Czeigler Rose Visontay grew up in Debrecen, Hungary, and trained as a dressmaker, before moving to Paris in the early 1920s. Returning to Hungary, she then established fashion salons in Debrecen and Budapest, which she ran until World War II, when she was deported from Hungary by the German occupation army. She arrived in Australia after World War II. At the age of 60, she took up painting in oils and ceramics, becoming well-known for her work in Sydney.
