Rose Lindsay was the daughter of John and Rosa Soady whose story she has told in Ma and Pa: My Childhood Memories (1963). While still a teenager, she started posing as an artist's model, which led to work at Julian Ashton's Society of Artists rooms in Vickery's Chambers: her memoir, A Model Life chronicles Rose's encounters with the artistic and literary figures that began then. She modelled for Norman Lindsay (q.v.) and later married him (his second marriage). They had two daughters, Jane (q.v.) and Helen.

Jane's account, Portrait of Pa (1973) describes her parents' realtionship and the life they lived at Springwood. Rose printed her husband's etchings, marketed the works of art and ran the household.

Norman Lindsay's Papers held at the State Library of New South Wales contain much correspondence between Norman and Rose.
