Mocco Wollert arrived in Australia in 1958 at age 23. She had previously escaped from East Germany in 1945. She migrated to Australia to be re-united with her future husband, Niclas Wollert, who had already settled here. She spent 14 years in Darwin before moving to Brisbane. Her first poem was published in the early 1960s in The Territorian. She founded the Queensland Branch of the Society of Women Writers of Australia, has been a member of Multicultural Writers of Queensland and of the Australian Society of Authors, and has been President of the Queensland branch of the Fellowship of Australian Writers (FAW).

Wollert's work has been read on Radio ABC and Radio 4EB's German language program. She has read for the Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland in 1985, at the Dabbles on Days Gallery in 1986, at the Brisbane Writers Readings and Poets by the River, Brisbane, in 1987, at the Brisbane Writers Readings in 1988, at Romancing the Word, 1989, and for National Refugee Week in 1990. She has won many prizes for poetry and her work has been translated into French and Spanish.
