BiographyHistory

Ross was born in the fishing village of Moeraki and educated at Palmerston, Otago. He worked as a stock inspector for the Department of Agriculture, New Zealand. He is almost certainly the poor aspiring poet squashed in The Bulletin (12 March 1898 p.15) with the reply: 'D.M.R. (M.L.[Maoriland]): What weak, diluted verse you Maorilanders for the most part write. Looks as if you keep your feet warm and heads cool, instead of vice versa.'
