Nigel Roberts is a poet and editor who has also taught high school art and contributed to several anthologies of poetry. He was an enthusiastic participant in the Australian poetry revolution of the 1960s and 1970s, the 'generation of 1968', and is a respected figure in the contemporary poetry community. Roberts gained a reputation for editing with Free Poetry, Off the Page, Post/Modern Writing, the News and Weather poetry pages in The Living Daylights, and A Package Deal (197?).
Roberts has a sharp wit and an inventive approach to language. The narratives of his poems are often characterised by an edgy journalistic tone. He explores subjects such as myth, storytelling and love with a combination of humorous positivity and darker irony. The Oxford Companion to Australian Literature describes him as "one of the more strikingly individualistic of contemporary writers".
