1 1 y separately published work icon Astroturfing for Spring D. J. Huppatz , Glebe : Puncher and Wattmann , 2021 21192094 2021 selected work poetry

'D.J. Huppatz's latest collection, Astroturfing for Spring confronts its readers with the dizzying effects of information overload. Disturbing yet playful, its poems re-assemble bits of our mediated culture at the point where selfies, social media and gaming meet capitalism, cosmology and climate change. Rapid shifts and unexpected juxtapositions disrupt the idea of poetry as a transparent mode of communication while celebrating writing's rhyme, rhythm and startling possibilities. The "chance inheritor of a language parasite", D.J. Huppatz is the author of Happy Avatar (Puncher and Wattman, 2015). He reads, writes and follows in Melbourne.'

1 1 y separately published work icon Happy Avatar D. J. Huppatz , Glebe : Puncher and Wattmann , 2015 9520288 2015 selected work poetry

'When William Blake meets Hello Kitty there’s bound to be sparks. Happy Avatar transports the reader into a mingled reality of sampled voices, incongruous idioms and enchanting distractions. Bite-sized mashups from celebrity gossip sites, click-bait headlines, intimate messages and serious socio-political analysis mix with Shakespearean form and Biblical rhythms. While revelling in the shiny tackiness of a ceaseless information stream, Happy Avatar offers its readers unsettling meditations on the problem of infinite regress, the crisis of capitalist accumulation and climate change. Formally provocative and absurdly intelligent, D.J. Huppatz’s first major collection challenges us to reconsider poetry’s place in 21st-century life.' (Publication summary)
