Daughter of Alan Walter Mewett and his wife Ivy Elizabeth (Morgan), Bronwyn was the eldest of three children. She spent the first few years of her life at Williamstown, where she attended the Williamstown Primary School, then moved with her family to Gawler in 1957. She went to the Gawler High School, then gained a Diploma of Teaching at SACAE (Salisbury). She then became a lecturer with TAFE SA and spent some of her spare time writing. She has had short stories and poetry published in various anthologies.

In 1986 she started the Parks Writers Group, for which she eventually received some funding from the SA Dept for the Arts, the Australia Council and the Enfield Council. This funding enabled the publication of an anthology, Word Tapestry (1989) which included writings by people of a number of different ethnic backgrounds.
