BiographyHistory

Franca Arena was the first woman from a non-English-speaking background to be elected to the NSW Parliament where she served from 1981 to 1999. Among her many other contributions to public life, she was the founding member of the Migrant Women's Association, president of the National Italian-Australian Women's Association, and founder of the NSW Ethnic Community Council.
