The 'Sunshine Girls' were girls from Derek Pugh's Eagle Class from Maningrida Community Education Centre. Maningrida is an Aboriginal community on the coast of Arnhem land in the Northern Territory. Most of the girls belonged to the Burarra people, whose land stretches along the coast east of the Blyth River towards Milingimbi. In 1994 the girls ranged in age from 13 to 18 years and were doing the General Studies Certificate Course. They included Charlene Bonson Djarpi-Djarpi, Alison Cooper Gangarnda, Jaqueline Phillips Galamarrjin, Evette Dawn Pascoe, Sabrina Yulumurru Dhurrkay, Rhonda Brown Guykaladawuy, Eileen Bonson Djinjirrow, Simonne lLwrence, Justina Williams Wilinggirra and Roseanne Darcy Wangaytcha.
