Despite post-dating the third film in the series by some thirty years, this instalment is said to fit in the timeline somewhere between films one and two.

Unlike its predecessor, this film is not based on a Dick King-Smith novel.

Based on the novel The Sheep-Pig by British writer Dick King-Smith, Babe follows the adventures of a plucky piglet who is separated from his mother, brought to Farmer Hoggett's farm, and adopted by Fly, a kindly sheep-dog. His desire to emulate her and her mate, Rex, leads to farmer Hoggett training him as a 'sheep-pig' and entering him in the local sheep-dog trails, despite the derision of the other farmers.

Based on the true story of Augusto and Michaela Odone and their relentless search for a cure for their son Lorenzo's adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD), an extremely rare, incurable, and degenerative brain disorder. Before he turns seven, Lorenzo Odone's childhood is normal. Then strange things begin to happen to him. He has blackouts, memory lapses, and other strange mental phenomena. When he is eventually diagnosed as suffering from ALD, the Odones discover that no-one had been looking into the disease, due to its rarity and the lack of funding. The Odones then begin to educate themselves in the hope of discovering something that can halt the progress of the disease.

Based partly on real incidents, Anzacs is a fictional account of the lives of a dozen Australian soldiers serving in the Australia and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) during World War I. The narrative follows them from the 1915 Battle of Gallipoli to the brutal trenches of France during the 1916 Somme Offensive, the 1917 Battle of Arras and Battle of Vimy Ridge, and the 1918 German offensives and the final drive to victory. It also focuses on the hardships, mis-adventures, and casualties experienced by Australia's soliders.

Some fifteen years after the events of Mad Max 2, when civilisation has been all but destroyed by the nuclear war, former policeman Max continues to roam the Australian desert, this time in a camel-drawn vehicle. When father-and-son thieves Jebediah Senior and Junior use their jury-rigged airplane to steal his possessions and his means of transportation, Max makes his way to Bartertown. A cesspool of post-apocalyptic capitalism powered by methane-rich pig manure, Bartertown is ruled by two competing overlords: Aunty Entity and Master (who rides around on the back of his hulking underling, Blaster). Seeking to re-equip himself, Max strikes a deal with the haughty Aunty to kill Blaster in ritualised combat inside Thunderdome, a giant jungle gym where Bartertown's conflicts are played out in a postmodern update of bread and circuses. Although Max manages to fell the mighty Blaster, he refuses to kill him after realising Blaster has a developmental disability. Aunty's henchmen murder Blaster anyway, and then punish Max for violating the law of Thunderdome: 'two men enter, one man leaves.' Lashed to the back of a hapless pack animal and sent out into a sandstorm to die, Max is rescued by a band of tribal children and teens. The descendants of the victims of an airplane crash, the kids inhabit a lush valley and wait for the day when Captain Walker, the plane's pilot, will return to lead them back to civilisation. Some of the children refuse to believe that the glorious cities of their mythology no longer exist, and set off in search of civilisation on their own. Max and three tribe members subsequently set out to rescue them from Bartertown and Aunty Entity.

The Last Bastion explores the events of 1941 to 1942, when Australian Prime Minister John Curtin waged a political battle against US President Franklin Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in an attempt to shore up support against the prospective Japanese invasion of Australia.

Based on A. B. (Banjo) Paterson's classic poem, The Man from Snowy River is a coming-of-age story set in the Snowy River highlands of Northern Victoria and southern NSW in about 1880. Young stockman Jim Craig has lived his first eighteen years in the mountains.The death of his father forces him to leave the family property and go to the low lands to earn enough money to get it back in operation. He finds work on the property of the wealthy Mr Harrison, but when a valuable colt runs off to join a mob of brumbies in the highlands, he is forced to get it back and hopefully clear his name. Harrison offers a reward, which brings to the hunt dozens of the best horsemen in the district (including Clancy of the Overflow). Unimpressed by Jim's undersized mountain horse, Harrison and the other stockmen suggest that he stay behind. Jim uses his knowledge of the mountains and his horse's experience to track the colt down and bring it home. He doesn't ride so much for the reward, however, as to prove his worth to Harrison's headstrong daughter Jessica.

The narrative's sub-plot sees Jim and Jessica caught in the middle of a twenty-year-old feud between Harrison and his twin brother, Spur (who was also Jim's father's best friend and Jessica's now-dead mother's former true love).

In this sequel to the original Mad Max, Max finds himself involved with a small group of settlers who live around a small working oil refinery, producing that most precious of products in a post-apocalyptic society: petrol.

In a post-apocalyptic Australia, law and order has begun to break down due to energy shortages, despite the efforts of Main Force Patrol (MFP) officers like Max Rockatansky. After Rockatansky encounters Toecutter's motorcycle gang, who are running runshod over isolated communities, he grows disillusioned with his role in the MFP. At first convinced by his superior officer not to resign, he is driven into a state of cold-blooded revenge when Toecutter's gang murder his wife and young son.
