Daughter of Nora from the Garawa Tribe and Constable Tom Turner, Connie Bush was born at Borroloola and taken with her Mother from Borroloola to the Roper River Mission as a baby. In September 1921 at the age of two she was separated from her Mother and removed to the Mission at Groote Eylandt where she spent her childhood and youth.
Connie Bush worked in the kitchen at Groote Eylandt and became an assistant teacher and medical assistant. In 1941, in Darwin, she married Fred Bush who had also grown up on the Roper River and Groote Eylandt missions.
During WW II Connie Bush and her children were evacuated from Darwin, living in the Blue Mountains and at Mildura in Victoria, leaving Fred Bush in Darwin working for the Department of Works.
Connie Bush returned to Groote Eylandt in 1966 and, for more than 20 years, she served the people of Groote Eylandt. She was appointed to the Women's Advisory Council in the 1970s. In 1988 Connie Bush moved back to Darwin.
