Robin Wallace-Crabbe studied art at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and has been employed in a variety of jobs, including newspaper cartoonist, film animator, printmaker, art critic and art teacher. He has held a large number of exhibitions and his paintings are represented in most major Australian art collections including the National Gallery of Australia.

Wallace-Crabbe's first novel, Feral Palit, was published in 1978 and was followed by Goanna (1982) and Dogs (1993). He has also written the humorous Australia Australia (1989). Under the pseudonym Robert Wallace he has published several crime novels including the Essington Holt series.

Wallace-Crabbe has lived on rural properties in Gippsland, Victoria and the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales. He is the brother of writer and academic, Chris Wallace-Crabbe (q.v.).
