Millie Boyd, known as Aunty Millie was an Elder and custodian of the teachings of the Bundjalung, Githrabal and Knarkbaul people, which together covered a vast are from southern Queensland down to Ballina, and inland to Tabulam and Baryulgil. Aunty Millie was born at Stoney Gully, near Kyogle, when she was twelve, she was sent with her aunt to work as domestic help at Grevillia Station. There, she later met and married Chris Boyd, they had seven children. At the time of her passing she had 23 grandchildren, and two great-great-great grandchildren.
Aunty Millie, was always in demand with historians, archaeologists, anthropologists and the National Parks and Wildlife Service, and worked showing areas of sacred sites, recording stories, and traveled extensively for cultural conferences. She knew tribal boundaries, songs, dances and stories of different places, especially that of the four rivers; Logan, Tweed, Clarence and Richmond - and knew clan groupings all around.
