BiographyHistory

Agnes Rose-Soley came to Australia for her health after attending Newnham College, Cambridge, and spending some time in Naples. Shortly after arriving she was appointed music and drama critic for Bailey's Sunday News, Hunter Street, Sydney. She moved to the Sunday Times where she met and married the editor, J. R. Soley (q.v.). The Soleys lived in Samoa for two years in the late 1890s, then travelled to San Francisco and England before returning to Australia in 1910. Rose-Soley founded the Sydney Branch of the Lyceum Club. She was also a journalist and short story writer.
