Beckett relates the story told to him of the death of a sixteen-year-old Aboriginal girl, Alamarayu, who was taken by a crocodile while attempting to cross Victor Creek, and the close escape of her sixteen-year-old friend, Coodjealongamow. The tragic event was witnessed by the group of women and children with whom the girls were travelling.
