George Orwell was the pen name used by British novelist and social critic Eric Arthur Blair. Orwell's Animal Farm and 1984 have been lauded as the best political novels of the twentieth century, and his writing has made him one of the most recognised writers of the last hundred years. His novel Down and Out in Paris and London was banned in Australia in 1933 and Keep the Aspidistra Flying was banned in 1936.
