Editor, proprietor and publisher of the Omnibus and Sydney Spectator.

In 1832, Wilson was appointed first police magistrate of New South Wales by Governor Bourke. He held that position until his dismissal in July 1840 when he was found to have used police officers for his personal protection and profit.

Wilson is described in the Sydney Monitor and Commercial Advertiser (4 October 1841) as 'Colonel H. C. Wilson' and the Australian Dictionary of Biography Online asserts that Wilson served in the army of a South American republic prior to his arrival in Australia.
