BiographyHistory

Sir Ian Hamilton was Commander in Chief of the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force for the World War I Gallipoli campaign. He was recalled to London, United Kingdom, on 16 October 1915 and replaced by General Sir Charles Monro who recommended the evacuation from Gallipoli. Hamilton published a two-volume diary of his wartime experiences, Gallipoli Diary (1920).
