BiographyHistory

Beyond International Limited (Beyond) is one of Australia's leading independent producers of television, and has production offices both in Australia (Sydney) and overseas (Los Angeles, San Francisco and Bethesda). Since its inception in 1984, Beyond has through its various divisions produced more than 5,000 hours of programming, including information and documentary programs, magazine and lifestyle series, as well as drama, light entertainment, children's shows, variety, comedy and mini-series.

Among the corporation's best-known productions, both in Australia and internationally are Mythbusters, Halifax f.p., Good Guys, Bad Guys, Stingers, Something in the Air, What's Good For You, Beyond Tomorrow, New MacDonald's Farm, Taboo, Selling Houses Australia, South Side Story and Prototype This!

Beyond has established separate divisions or ventures for each of its major operations (although some are now defunct). These operations have included:

  • Beyond Productions (information/lifestyle)
  • Beyond Simpson Le Mesurier Pty Ltd (drama)
  • Pacific and Beyond (children's/documentary)
  • dsp Beyond (light entertainment/reality)
  • Liberty and Beyond (co-venture with Liberty Films)
  • Beyond Distribution (previously Beyond Films)
  • Beyond Entertainment
  • Beyond Fact and Fiction
  • Beyond Action
  • Beyond Home Entertainment
  • Magna Home Entertainment
  • Beyond Harbourside

Beyond's home entertainment operations, established in 2005, focus on digital and DVD distribution. Its international distribution business markets an extensive program catalogue sourced from third party producers and internal production. This business unit is headquartered in Dublin, with sales offices in London and Sydney.

Beyond International was purchased by French entertainment company Banijay, which closed Beyond Productions UK in September 2023, and announced lay-offs in Beyond Productions' offices in Sydney and Los Angeles in December 2023.

Beyond International CEO Mikael Borgland repurchased the company's production division and its subsidiaries in January 2024.
