BiographyHistory

English-born William Shaw travelled from South Australia to America when he heard about the Californian gold rush, leaving Adelaide in 1849. Shaw wrote about his experiences in America in Golden Dreams and Waking Realities (1851); the book ends with Shaw's return to Australia, docking in Sydney.
