BiographyHistory

Paddy Djiagween was born in Broome and grew up in Beagle Bay Mission where he learnt to read and write. Djiagween was one of the first Aboriginal people to be served a beer in a hotel in Broome after personally asking Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to Australia in 1963, to be given the same rights as non-Indigenous Australians. Djiagween is also the grandfather of Michael and Patrick Dodson (qq.v).
